Professor Chris Elias teaches a course on Sexuality in American Film as part of the American Studies department. Students view films and read supplemental information that explore a number of themes related to the WGS curriculum like gender identity, sexual identity, and transgender experiences. In addition, students are expected to write short analytical responses on most of the 17 films assigned for the course. I have included a response that I wrote on the film Shaft (1971) from the blaxploitation genre that focused on themes of black power, race, and masculinity.
